Race 5, 04/16/2013, Fallout
Slim Pickings
The weather was dreary. In the days that are supposed to be hot, dry, and sunny we were given instead rain, cold, and high winds. After postponing the race 1 day for calmer skies, we made the trek to the Fallout hill.
The promises of others to show up to race to watch and to witness the spectical were as dust in the wind when one by one they failed to show. So with 3 racers and 4 carts and no support crew it was decided to make 3 runs of 1 vs 1 and take an average for the win.
The course is 2 miles with a nasty steep twisty and fast section in the first 1/2 mile followed by a more mellow run to the bottom. The roll off is crutial so as to enter the first corners first and keep the lead. After that is all about weight and rolling restistance with a couple short steep uphill bumps to overcome.
Run 1: Cobra vs Snow Leopard
Snow Leopard being our newest driver was given his first run down the hill against Cobra. Not being experienced in the fine arts of soaping he succumed to a spinout in the first corner at high speed. Cobra maintained control thru the gauntlet and coasted the last half in ease for the win.
Run 2: Snow Leopard vs Gram Torino
With lessons learned from the earlier spin out Snow Leopard stayed on course raced to the bottom, but not before Gram Torino was able to reach the finish first.
Run 3: Gram Torino vs Cobra
Gram got the hole shot and reached the corners first with Cobra hot behind. After carving thru the last of the gauntlet Cobra was able to slip past and stay out front.
Conclusion: Cobra 2/0, Gram Torino 1/1, Snow Leopard 0/2
Cobra was declared winner and kept the trophy (must get picture of mythical trophy) by winning both his races. Even tho we thought to have 5 or 6 drivers and 2-6 support crew and spectators coming out to join us, events just did not go as planned as the numbers dwindled to only two. But fun there was and race went on.
