Cactus Classic Challenge `13
Six-Shooter
The stars of the show.
Six carts lined up. Six carts came down. Them six carts were zoom'n all around.
March 17th, St Patrick's Day. We
all met at 7 am (except for those who were late and those who were early) and
proceeded to the first hill, Beach Bum. Having never run the hill before it was decided to make 2 groups for cautions sake. The first run ended with an easy win by Fastdonnie followed by Cobra (with failed brakes) and Green Machine. Second group saw The Clone take the win with Gram Torino and our Vegas Downhill friend bringing up the rear.
The Clone & Fast Donnie - 4pts
Cobra & Gram Torino - 3pts
Green Machine & The Lion (V.D. substitute) - 2pts
As we made our way to the next run we were suprized to see about 1,000 mountain bikers and pedestrians swarming our location. We were forced to abandon our attempt down the Rock City trail. No points would be earned here today. Too bad too. It would have been a vey fun trail.
Next we headed straight for Bighorn, the monster 8.6 mile 6% hill. Everyone started together making a great spectacle for those of us only used to running in groups of 3. The Clone and Fast Donnie shot past with Cobra close behind. Gram Torino made her best performance down the hill with The Lion and Green Machine following her. At the end was a right hand turn that EVERYONE was briefed about. "Don't miss the right turn at the end. You must
make the right turn!" The Clone and Fastdonnie missed the turn. They both pushed their carts back to the track to finish the race. The Clone crossed the line first but Cobra beat out Fastdonnie. Gram Torino was not far behind with a respectable time. Green Machine also missed the turn giving up his place to The Lion.
The Clone - 4pts
Cobra - 3pts
Fastdonnie - 2pts
Gram Torino, The Lion & Green Machine - 1pt
With the points totaled, the winner was declared.
The Clone - 8pts
Fastdonnie & Cobra - 6pts (tie)
Gram Torino - 4pts
Green Machine & The Lion - 3pts (tie)
The folks from Vegas Downhill, the local longboard group, were a welcome addition to the party. The fun run after word provided them a taste of what it is like to pilot a cart instead of board. One thing we all agree on is this. Gravity rocks!
