Race 9, Rock City
I Wanna Be A Rockstar
This course is not real fast, but offered technical driving challenges aplenty. The road is narrow, the turns very sharp, little to no room for error, and this being done with 2 new drivers.
Road Runner was slated to show but was sick and could not make it. Then after the warm-up run, Gram Torino was feeling light headed from the heat. This left 2 carts without drivers and threatened to end the race. But no fear! Our long board brothers of Team Vegas Downhill jumped in to fill the gap. This course being a favorite for their own gravity sports meant that they were already very familiar with the hill.
Early on Cobra, The Local and Fat Guy (Green Machine) were battling for the lead going into the first corner. Cobra cut in and kept the lead but Fat Guy and The Local continued to breath down each other necks. Half way down where the bike path meets the flood channel, Fat Guy decided to make his move past The Local. With a daring high speed turn and taking the obstacle at frightening speeds, poor Rockstar slid out of control as it took a berm too high and slammed into the rail fence. The Local passed and made his way down to the finish for second place behind Cobra. Big Bird meanwhile meandered his way down at his pleasure for third. Fat Guy settled for a DNF.
The aftermath damage of Rockstar was substantial. With body panels awry, the brake system compromised, and the steering wheel bent. But the sad news was the driver. Skinned hands, cut fingers, scraped shins, and bruised ribs. However, his pride stayed intact as he limped the cart to the finish line with much effort.
High speed of the day was set by Cobra in Mayhem at 39 mph. Trust me, any faster might have resulted in a ruptured disk.
