Race 21, Slow Poke
Cheaters, All of Them
Our second race of the day was a few miles back up the road and down the other side. At 2 miles long this course is one of the shorter runs in the playbook at lower speeds than many of the others. For this round Johnny Dog took the helm again in Huevos Rancheros to run against Quaker Chevelle in his Hawaiian Punch, Tito with Mini Indy, and Cobra piloting Mayhem.
As Johnny Dog and Cobra were still setting up to race Quaker and Tito mistakenly thought they heard the call to "go", and so took off before the rest of the feild was set. With a good head start already, both Cobra and Johnny were stuck in a flat spot with no power to get rolling. Cobra shoved Johnny forward to get him onto the road and in doing so stalled every bit of forward motion he had up to that point. Johnny was now off and Cobra gradually began rolling as well, but the two cheaters were way ahead.
The two leaders were eventually overtaken by Johnny Dog leaving Tito in second and Quaker in third, but Cobra was also catching quickly. Quaker was taking fast lines but with no weight to Hawaiian Punch to speak of Mayhem was able to pass. Johnny crossed the finish line first but in the real show was when Tito failed to hold second from a speedy Cobra in a near photo finish. Quaker followed for forth ending in a grand power slide that is his signature ending move.
