Fun Run, Rock City
Hot Rod Lincoln
Attendence for what was supposed to be Race 22 was a dismal 2 carts and racers. Losing 1 driver to injury and 2 others to travel plan conflictions Quaker Chevelle and Cobra pressed on. Having finished the new proto type Danger Car just the night before, Cobra offered Quaker the honor of the maiden voyage down the beloved city bike path. Actually, Cobra just did not what to be the one to get hurt if somthing went wrong on the run ;) .
Quaker had never driven this couse or this cart before. Rock City videos from previous events are part of the reason he first wanted to race and had been an advocate for returning to it for quite some time. Part of the run involves passing under obsticles that have a mere 35 inches of clearance under them. The new Danger Car is 34 1/2 inches tall! A little bit of faith was going to be exersized tonight in the failing light of dusk.
To start the fun run Cobra jumped to the front and lead the way from the road past he concrete pylon and onto the bike path. From there Quaker took point and carved his way down the course and across the road and down into the flood channel. This was the moment of truth, after the first tunnel was a gate that would test the true hight of the cart and disaster. With less than an inch to spare Danger Car soared under the obsticle and further down the run. There came a point where a clueless pedestrian and his dog stood to block the entire path. It was not until moment before a collision that the man realized his dog was running off to the side and looked away from the sky to see two crazy blokes in carts racing toward him. he jumped to the side following his clever K9 and the 2 motorless miscreants sped past. Cobra then began to bore of following and passed Quaker's experimental ride and coasted the remaining half mile to the finish.
Because this was a fun run only there were no extra points for taking first or second. Both drivers got their extra point for attending a special event (fun run). Quaker loved the new Danger Car so much that he kept it to use for the SFVISBF race they both were heading to Malibu the next day for. Nothing beats the pure briliance that Danger Car offers in the way of handling. It is by far the best driving machine to ever run the Vegas valley hills.
