Race 19, Bighorn Lower
As the trash talking abated from the first race, the directions for the second was given. We would start at the ghost town and run the remaining 6 miles thru the canyon and to the river ending in the wash below.
It was clearly and forcefully expressed that the finish line was at the bottom of a set of switchbacks, a road that turns right off the main road and goes to th...e bottom the the wash below on the right side. "You MUST make the right turn. It is the only right turn. In fact it is the ONLY turn along the entire road. No other turns exist. Do not miss this turn!"
Upon the count of 3 the race began and the same story persented it's self from the last run. Johnny Dog sped past with Cobra in tow as Quaker Chevelle cruised behind. Cobra noticed that Johnny was creating about 5 seconds of distance every mile and soon was lost to sight around the hills and corners. Toward the end the river was in sight, the right turn was aproaching, and Johnny was nowhere to be seen. Cobra took the right down into the switchbacks but did not see the Dog anywhere below. He crossed the finish as the lone soul in the parking lot and wondered where his friend could be. After a minute or so the Hawaiian Punch made it's signature power slide clinching the 2nd place title, but still no Johnny. Feeling concerned for the Fastdonnie's former cart we set out to find them.
We needn't look far, Johnny Dog was hanging out with a couple of park rangers at the turnabout at the dead end of the main road. He had indeed missed the ONLY right and continued straight instead running into (not literally) the po-po in the middle of a traffic stop of another vehicle. After the initial shock of his arrival, the rangers checked out his vehicle and reassured themselves he was not a threat to civil order. They let him go with a wave as Cobra pushed him back up the road to the RIGHT TURN (now left) where they both rode the cart down the hill bobsled style.
1st - Cobra / Mayhem
2nd - Quaker Chevelle / Hawaiian Punch
3rd - Johnny Dog / unnamed
